This half-day meeting aims to spark discussions, organize activities, and explore collaboration opportunities across the two main focuses of the MiS Math & AI initiative: “Math Foundations of AI” and “Math and Complex Systems”, under the umbrella of the MiS Mathematics Lab.

Scope: We highlight the broad mathematics and AI scope of the Day. This meeting aims to connect researchers interested in theory and practice, applications, and ties to complex systems such as physics, chemistry, biology, neuroscience, and social science. All topics at the intersection of mathematics (e.g., differential geometry, algebraic geometry, topology, algebra, differential equations, and dynamical systems) and AI (e.g., TDA, ML, symbolic AI, and mathematical modeling) are welcome.

Objective: This meeting has three main goals:

  • Introduce the community members and their research interests through lightning talks.
  • Map out plans during the discussion session for the community to organize Math & AI research activities.
  • Identify potential collaboration partners during the problem session.

Registration: Please register by Monday, February 26th, see registration (note the updated deadline). Indicate on the form if you will attend in person or remotely over Zoom. The event is open to all, and early registration will help us plan the sessions and catering.

Lightning Talk Submission: If you are interested in presenting a lightning talk to introduce yourself and your research interests, please indicate so on the registration form. Additionally, include one interesting fact about yourself on your slide, such as a hobby, an unusual experience, or anything you feel represents you. Send your single presentation slide as a PDF file by Monday, February 26th to math-ai-day@mis.mpg.de. (Note the updated deadline.) Each talk should be 1–2 minutes long.

Discussion Session: We highly encourage participants to come prepared with ideas or suggestions for future Math & AI activities that could be organized by the Lab community, such as seminars and journal clubs.

Problem Session Submission: To contribute to the problem session and connect with potential collaborators, indicate your interest on the registration form and prepare to present your problem suggestions, including background, for about 4 minutes on a blackboard. The problem session will not be streamed.

If you want to be involved but are unable to attend in person or remotely, or if you have any questions or require further details, please contact us at math-ai-day@mis.mpg.de.
